AIMS OF N.S.S.
:
- To develop a
national consciousness among the youth

the spirit of service and sacrifice in the younger generation
National Service Scheme (NSS) is a permanent youth programme under
the ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India and funded by Government
of Kerala and Government of India in the ratio of 5:7.The overall objective of the
scheme is educational and this objective is sought to be achieved through the social
community services. It is a student–centered programme in which projects are implemented
by the NSS volunteers in the community in close collaboration with the community
members and thereby it provides vast scope for the students’ interaction with the
people. While interacting with the community the students learn many things which
they cannot learn from theory classes. Thus the scheme is aimed at developing the
human soul in such a way as the student is mentally shaped to fit into the society
to which he also belongs and will continue to live in.Any student enrolled as a
NSS volunteer, as per NSS Manual should put in at least 240 hours of useful social
work in a continuous period of two years (i.e. 120 hours per year) and should attend
the Ten day Special Camping Programme. Such volunteer is eligible to get NSS Service
Certificate from the University. Volunteers are guided by Programme Officer. Programme
Officer is expected to motivate the student youth to understand the values and philosophy
of NSS. The overall functions of Programme Officers are to help the students to
plan, implement and evaluate the activities of NSS under his/her charge and give
proper guidance and directions to the student volunteers.
