A.Aims & Objectives of Multimedia centre
In this
era of Information Technology it is necessary to use the potential of electronic
information management in all curricular and co curricular activities. The overall
aim of the multimedia centre is to develop a multimedia learning environment which
integrates all the available information resources and education technologies. Creating
power point presentations, Usage of OHP, Slide Projectors , LCD, Television, Audio
recordings etc are some of the examples of positive use of multimedia based teaching.
It is now
a common practice of many lecturers to make electronic versions of their lectures
to support module teaching. The centre will function as a facilitator for all such
needs. It will provide all technical resources for developing appropriate technologies
for all teaching activities. Use of Information Technology for learning is also
one of the objectives of this centre.
Another
project of multimedia centre is to develop a range of full-service technology design
and consulting solutions for faculty research and instructional use. The centre
designs and develops multimedia projects like interactive course contents for instructional
support, educational CDs and software. User interface, digital video, professional
audio, animation, and 3D modeling are combined to create intuitive, engaging environments
for learning, research, and presentation.
In short
the goals of multimedia centre are

multimedia educational tools and produce creative works.
B.Structure of the governing body
Multi media
centre is proposed to be function as a co-ordination level body which incorporates
all multimedia based activities in the college. There are several independent committees
working at different areas of multimedia activities like computer centre, Language
lab, Edusat, Website developing committee etc. By sustaining all these committees
The Multi media centre coordinates
and integrate all these activities in a wider perspective.

C. Infra Structure
1. Multimedia Class rooms
Two or
three full fledged multimedia class rooms are needed for a developed multi media
centre. A multimedia class room requires.

Due to
the unavailability of rooms, Smart class room designed for Edusat at the seminar
hall is now used as a temporary multimedia class room. All Multimedia equipments
including sound system is arranged in this room. Funds from CDC and PTA is used for
this purpose.
2. Multimedia Lab.
Multimedia
lab is meant to develop multimedia tools like interactive modules,
Softwares , Documentaries etc.
There should be enough facilities for such productions like recording, Editing and
copying.

3. Multimedia Library
A multi
media library is a part of the proposed multimedia centre that provides all multimedia
collections like CDs, Cassettes, Presentations, Slides and Transparency sheets.
D. Areas of Co-ordination
Multimedia
Centre is co-ordinating the following activities under multimedia centre.
1.Computer Center
A computer
centre managed by PTA is functioning in the college for many years. At present Dr.Narayan
is in charge of the centre. Two instructors on contract basis are working under
the centre. A computer basic course for all first year degree students is conducted
by the centre every year. During Degree Admission a sum of Rs.350/ is collecting
as course fee. Course duration is 45 hours and the training is in office automation.
The structure and the content of the course were not attractive. So the Course is
now restructured and diversified according to the level and needs of the students.
For this a pre evaluation survey is conducted among First year students and they
are classified in to different groups as per their level of knowledge. Apart from
the basics different modules like Basics
in accounting, Programming, D.T.P, DBMS and Statistical analysis is provided as optional.
2. Internet Club.
College
has an internet centre for academic search and downloads. As a part of INFLIBNET
a broad band internet connection and 10 systems are installed in the computer centre.
Internet wing is separated with in the computer centre Permission is given to all
the students, teachers and the research scholars by charging a nominal amount like
Rs.5 or 10/Hr during working hours and a separate register should be maintained
and all the details of the users is recorded. The users should be provided copying
and printing facility.
3. Film Club
A film club named `Frames’ is functioning as a part of Multimedia
Centre. The main objective of the film club is to raise the sensibility and aptitude
of the students in visual media. A film club is a organization where the
members can watch classic, foreign films and documentaries periodically which would
otherwise not be shown in theatre. The second face of action is to conduct film
appreciation courses, workshops, seminars and debates. The third face is to make
some good campus films both in feature and non feature section.
4. Multimedia Course
Multi media Centre is now going to conduct a multimedia
basic level course every year. The course is structured in the form of an orientation
programme through which the students will get basic knowledge, skills and techniques
in multi media.25 students can be admitted each year. Classes are scheduled during
holidays .Course duration will be 75 hours .There will be two sessions per day and
Rs.250/session as remuneration + actual TA will be paid to resource persons. After
the successful completion of the course a certificate should be given to the students.
Course syllabus includes Fundamentals of journalism, Reporting, Editing, and Lay
out, D.T.P, Still photography, Videography, Photo editing, Video Editing, Web designing
and Animation. Total expense of the course is approximately Rs.13000/ and each students
should pay Rs.600/ as course fee. It is proposed that P.T.A should collect the fee
and directly deal all the financial matters.
Multimedia Centre is also conducting Various short term
long term courses like Communicative English,Statistical Packages, Medical Transcription,Competative
Examination Orientation Programmes etc.
5. College website
Our college has a website http://sngscollege.org and it
is now renewed as a good academic website and the new domain name of the site is http://sngscollege.info. The multi media centre is developing,
and designing the contents of the website. Apart from the administrative and infrastructural
matters a certain space is provided for academic and literal matters. Site contains
the history of the college, Life and works of GuruNathan, Old issues of Vijnanachinthamani,
electronic format of old sanskrit works, Vijnanacinthamani is now published as an E-Journal with in the website in
which research papers and creative writings of the Teachers, Scholars and
Students are included. Details of Faculties, Research, Courses, departmental
activities, links to NSS, NCC, Union Activities, Career Guidance, isprovided in
the site. Periodical updates and maintenance is also a part of multimedia centre
activity.
6. Language Lab.
College is now have a language lab and a committee is formed
. Language lab software is installed in the lab but it is not at all user friendly
or attractive and that supports only spoken English. Modules for sanskrit ,Hindi
Malayalam, and General phonetics should be developed. Classes can given to Degree
and P.G. Level in Spoken English, Functional Sanskrit,Functional Hindi and Phonetics
.Dr.P.K.sreekumar is in charge of the Language Lab.
7.Documentation and Public Relations
Wing
Multi media centre can function as a documentation wing
of the college. For this purpose a Documentation Wing is functioning under Multimedia
Centre with 30 students from different classes as members. All activities of the
college is now been recorded and documented in multi media form. Preparing press
releases, Reports, Videos and taking photographs of every event can be done by this
wing and it can act as a public relations cell of the college. Thus a big amount
of money is being saved and a complete
documentation for important evaluations like NAAC visit can be assured.
8.Creative Productions
As said earlier the chief
goal of multimedia centre is to produce some good multimedia creations like
interactive CDs, Educational softwares, Documentaries etc. Language softwares, Virtual
lab soft wares etc are some examples of educational softwares. In continuation with
the UGC Project- Legacy of Nila -visual documentation and research can be done in
various aspects of the culture and
history of Nila river valley by collaborating with some television channels and
Academies.
Multimedia Centre is now doing a project of Digital Archiving
of the multimedia collections for Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Academy
Multimedia centre can prepare slide shows, presentations
and other educational aids for all departments as per the demand. Multi media quiz
and shows can also be conducted.
9.College Admission
College admission for Degree and P.G. can be centralised
and computerised by developing a comprehensive programme for admission.
