Brief History f the
Department
The Post Graduate Department of Economics,
Sree Neelakanta Government Sanskrit College,Pattambi was established in1966.The Departmentoffers both Undergraduate and Post
Graduate programmes in Economics viz.,the B.A Economics and M.A.Economics courses
of the University of Calicut.The Under Graduate programme has a yearly intake of
50 students where as the Post Graduate programme has a semesterised pattern with
an intake of 15 students per semester.
The specialization in Agricultural Economics and Business Economics is the basic
highlight of the Post Graduate programme. The department has produced 2 ranks-one
for the B.A.Economics and the other for M.A. Economics in1996 and 1998 respectively.
Many of its alumni have cleared the UGC-NET Examination. The department is itself
conducting specialized and intensive coaching for the NET aspirants. It maintains
a close relationship with the locality by supervising and guiding the studies on
socio-economic issues of interest.
