Department of  Zoology

 

  

B.Sc. Degree Zoology (Main) course was started in 1977. Admission to the course is sanctioned for 20 students and 5 for marginal increase of the seats. Proficiency data of the department shows 95 to 100 % results for B.Sc.Course. The sanctioned strength of the teaching staff for the department is four. Presently, one of the staff members is a PhD holder who is also an alumni of the department. Another staff member is doing Ph.D under FIP. The alumni of the department include various professionals like doctors, Veterinarians, college teachers, higher secondary teachers, school teachers, advocates and so on. The department regularly conducts various seminars and other programmes for the progress of the department.

Research Programmes and Extension Activities

  

General

         As part of the syllabus, various project works are carried down by the students under the supervision of teaching staff of the department.

 

 

Academic & Research and Other Extension Activities and Achievements of  Teachers

1)      Dr.P.Haridasan[Ph.D. Thesis: “Studies on the Effects of Phytochemicals in the Extracts of Vitex negundo Linnaeus(Verbenacene) on the Stored Product Pest, Tribolium castaneum  Herbst (coleopteran:Tenebrionidae)”]. Ph.D obtained from Universityn of Calicut. Paper presented in Kerala Science Congress 29-31 January 2004: “Repellent Effect of Leaf Extract of Vitex negundo Linnaeus against the Rust-Red flour Bceffe, Tribolium castaneum  Herbst participated in 1 orientation and 3 refreshes courses for the academic requirement of the staff. The teaching staff member is also NSS Programme Officer of the college.

2)      Sri.M.P.Ishak: Presently doing research on “Comparative Ecology of the Nila River,Kalpathy River and Kunthipuzha with special emphasis on Avifauna” at PG Department of Zoology Farook college,Calicut.

              Participated sufficient refresher courses for the academic requirement. 

Academic Activities  

                Various Seminars are conducting in the department for the students as part of their syllabus. As part of the Zoolagy association, seminars and other programmes are conducted in the department.

  

Future Plans

                 Necessary steps are taken for starting M.Sc.Zoology course.

               Profecing data shows 95-100% result for B.Sc degree Zoology course.Several projects taken up by the department are  useful    to the community. Through tutorial system students are getting proper guid lines and information for in their studies and their activities.

         The alumni association is functioning under the patronage of the department of Zoology. If  functions well for the last 5 years. Present  Office bearers are Dr.P.Haridasan

Details of Activities: The Association undertakes various activities of academic, cultural, aesthetic & social interest. It helps the students to enrich their leadership qualities, to create a social attitude and to develop a scientific way of approach in dealing with their problems.The formal inauguration of  Zoology Association was  held on 9-1-07.
