The plan of action chalked
out by the IQAC in the beginning of the year towards quality enhancement and the
outcome achieved by the end of the year :

Outcome achieved :
1.
National Seminars have been conducted :
(a)
Post Graduate Department of Chemistry
The Department conducted
a two day national Seminar on ‘Recent developments in Spectroscopy and Nanochemistry’
on 20th and 21st October 2005.
The seminar was jointly inaugurated by Dr.A.Ajayaghosh, Scientist, RRL, Thiruvanan-thapuram
and Prof.T.Pradeep of IIT, Madras.
Dr.A.Ajayaghosh, Prof.T.Pradeep, Prof.K.Vijayamohanan,
NCL, Pune and Prof.M.P.Kannan of Calicut University, presented detailed papers on
the
subject. More than 30 college
teachers from various colleges and seventy post graduate students participated.
(b)
Post Graduate Department of Commerce and Management Studies
The Department
organised a two day national seminar on ‘Recent Trends in Banking Sector’ on 23rd
and 24th November 2005 with
active participation of commerce faculty of different colleges. The seminar was
inaugurated by Dr.K.Unuskutty, Hon’able Pro-vice Chancellor of M.G.University and
the keynote address was delivered by Dr.Sreeranganadhan, Director, School of Managemnt
studies, M.G. University. Dr.M.V. Mani, Calicut University, Mr.Vijayakumar, Sr.
Manager, Panjab National Bank, Mr.
A.Sreekumar, Vice-president, S.B.I. mutual funds, Cochin, and Sri T.S.Anantharaman,
Chairman, Peninsular Capital Market Ltd., Cochin presented research papers.
(c) Post Graduate and Research Department
of Malayalam
The Department conducted a three day national seminar on ‘Inter disciplinary
Approach to Literature’ on 13th , 14th and 15th
December 2005.
(d) Post Graduate Department of Botany
The Department conducted a two day
national seminar on ‘Contemporary issues of Environment’ on 15th and
16th December 2005. Sri
M.P.Raveendrakumar, Sel. Gr.Lecturer in Botany was the coordinator of the seminar. The seminar was inaugurated by Prof.M.K.Prasasd,
former Vice-chancellor , University of Calicut and well known Environmentalist. Prof.K.V.Krishnamurthy, Head of the
department of Botany, Bharati Dasan University, Thiruchirappally, Prof G.M.Nair,
Head of the Department of Botany, University of Kerala, Prof.P.V. Madhusoodanan,
Head of the Department of Botany, University of Calicut and Dr.Kunhikrishnan, Lecturer
, Department of Zoology, University College, Thiruvananthapuram were the resource
persons.

Post Graduate and Research Department
of Sanskrit
The Department conducted a three day national
seminar on ‘Sanskrit Traditions and Modern Trends’ from 4th to 6th
January 2006. Dr.Sukumar Azhikode inaugurated
the seminar. Reputed scholars presented
papers.
2.
A detailed plan for campus beautification has been chalked out and
the implementation of the same was started with the planting of tree saplings in
the college campus. The Vice Principal of the College, Maj.O.Venugopal initiated
the plan of action with the active co-operation of the Botany Department, College
C.S.S. and N.S.S. units. Sri K.Rajeev,
Dept. of Botany is nominated as co-ordinator of the programme and CSS co-ordinator
and NSS programme officers are the implementing officers.
This year the programme has started with the planting of rare species of
medicinal plants, flowering plants and other economically important plants without
affecting the ecological balance , landscape and
safety of the existing buildings in this wide area of 13 acres.

The proposed Library block is to be completed by six stages.
The second stage, namely the reading room part is to be constructed with the
assistance from the MPLAD Scheme of Sri Thennala Balakrishna Pillai (Rajya Sabha
M.P.) Foundation stone of the building
was laid down by Sri C.P.Mohammed, MLA of Pattambi.
Nirmithi Kendra, Palakkad has started the construction work.
4.
Estimated cost for the Canteen-cum-post
office building is Rs 9,70,000/-. UGC has sanctioned Rs 1,82,000/-
and CDC has allotted Rs2,88,000/-
for the project. The remaining amount
of the estimated cost ie Rs5,00,000/- has been sanctioned from the MLA fund of Sri
C.P.Mohammed. Administrative sanction
has been obtained and the work is entrusted to the Nirmithi Kendra, Palakkad.
5.
Preliminary arrangements for the Edusat terminal have been completed with Dr.P.P.
Shakkeeb, Dept. of Physics as co-ordinator.
6.
Electronic equipments have been supplied by the Govt. for setting up of Language
Lab in the college. A committee has
been constituted with Sri Rajesh V.Nair , Dept. of English as co-ordinator.
7.
Inflibnet Broadband Connection has been established in the college, along with
ten personal computers and accessories.
8.
Plan and estimate for the proposed Science block has been prepared by the chief
architect of the PWD. The project estimate
is Rs11 crores.
9.
Roof of the main block and PG block have been repaired by reinforcement
of concrete. The leakage during rainy
season has been stopped to some extent.
10.
Proposal for starting a publication division in the college has been sent to
the UGC. It is intended to revive ‘Vignana
Chinthamani’ publication once established
by the founder of the college, Panditharajan Punnasseri Nambi Neelakanta
Sarma (Gurunathan)
11.
Plan fund allotted by the State Govt. has been utilized by purchasing library
books and laboratory equipments. Plan
fund allotted for conducting national seminars have been completely utilized. UG grant second installment and PG grant
second installment of the Dept. of
Chemistry, Malayalam and Sanskrit and first installment of the Dept. of Botany under
UGC tenth plan have been utilized.

> The College is involved
in various Community oriented programmes.
The college was established by its founder to propagate Sanskrit education to all,
carving the barriers of cast, creed and religion.
The college is now updating its educational
programmes to enable its students to cope with
the challenges they have to face in their practical life.
Career guidance cell is established to facilitate campus selection of efficient
candidates thereby ensuring job opportunities to the students completing various
courses in the college.

Don. (Apocynaceae)” .Attended international conference on Ethanopharmacology and
Alternative Medicine, 20th
to 22nd January 2006 at Amala Cancer Research Centre, Thrissur and presented
a paper entitled “Ajmalicine production in Callus cultures of
Catharanthus pusillus(Murray) Don.”
Attended 18th Kerala Science Congress (29 to 31st ) January
2006 at CESS, Thiruvananthapuram and presented the paper “Investigation of Endosymbiont
theory using Genome Signatures”. Participated in the refresher course in Biostatistics
at the Academic staff College University of Kerala (2005). Participated in the refresher
course in Bioinformatics at the Academic Staff
College, University of Kerala(2006).

Dr.K.Sulekha, Dept. of Botany has attended the National
Seminar-cum-work shop on “present Status of General Crops in India and Modern Techniques
for plant Improvement” at KKTM .Govt. College, Pulloot from 27th to 29th
January 2005, and attended work shops for college Science Teachers at Sree Vyasa
NSS College, Wadakkanchery on 22nd January 2006.

Smt K.L.Sheela, Dept. of Botany has attended national
seminar on “Tsunami- Natural Calamities and disastrous Management”
and “Quality Assurance in Higher Education” conducted by NAAC at Govt. College,
Madappally.
Participated in the refresher
course in Bioinformatics conducted at the Academic Staff College, University of
Kerala.

national work shop on ‘Frontiers in Biotechnology’ at CMS College, Kottayam

and 18th January 2006.

Dr.K.Subramanian of Sanskrit Dept. was appointed as
chairman, Board of Examiners of M.A.(previous), Non-semester 2005, II Semester M.A.,
2005 and I semester M.A., 2006. Nominated
as the member in the PG board of studies and as chairman of UG board of studies
of the University of Calicut. Govt
of Kerala has appointed him as the nominee to the Director , Board of Adarsa Sanskrit
Vidya Peetha, Calicut.

Sri P.N.Parameswara Sarma, of Sanskrit Dept. was appointed
chairman, Board of Examiners of M.A. Sanskrit Sahithya – Non-Semester 2005.
(vii)
Major O.Venugopalan, Dept. of Commerce has conferred
the Honour of being the Charter Preisdent of the newly started Lions Club of Pattambi.
(viii)
Dr.A.Nelson, Dept. of Commerce has participated and
presented a paper on ‘E-education and its challenges’
at a National seminar conducted by the PG Dept of Commerce, Govt. College,
Kalpatta and attended work shop in PG syllabus revision of the University of Kerala,
during January 2006.

Sri V.K.Muraleedharan, Dept. of Commerce has attended
National Seminar on VAT conducted by SN College, Shornur.

Seminar on Vat at SN College, Shornur.

Smt Sethu Ravi, Dept. of Commerce has attended workshop
on PG Syllabus revision of Kerala University during January 2006.

Is writing the History of Malayalam poetry 1900-1950 in the Reference Book. Malayala Sahitya Charitham prepared
by Kendra Sahitya Academy with Sri M.T.Vadudevan Nair as the Editor. Various studies,
articles and interviews are being published in Mathrubhumi Weekly, Mathrubhumi week end edition, Madyamam weekly and
Grandhalokam. Has attended national
seminars conducted by the Dept. of English, Govt. College, Thrissur, at Prajyothi
Nikethan College, Calicut, at Asan Smarakam, Madras and at Kaladi Sree Sankara Acharya
Sanskrit University. Member Board of

a science block has been prepared by the Chief Architect of state PWD.
Fund allotment and construction of the science block is awaited

building has been completed with the assistance from the MPLAD scheme of Sri.S.Ajayakumar,
Hon’able M.P. of Ottappalam. Construction
of the second stage namely the reading room has been started with the Assist-
ance from MPLAD Scheme of
Sri Thennala Balakrishna Pillai, M.P.of Rajya Sabha.

Canteen-cum-post office building :
The building jointly funded by the UGC, College Development Committee and MLA fund
is under construction.
